Pandemic Flu Preparedness

June 2009

Your Health and Safety Are Important to Us

Avera DeSmet Memorial Hospital (ADMH) applied for and received a grant from the SD Department of Health to assist Kingsbury County in preparing a Pandemic Influenza Plan.  ADMH staff worked closely with several community members and county agencies to make a plan specific to the needs of our county.  As a result, the Kingsbury County Pandemic Influenza Plan has been published and distributed throughout Kingsbury County.  The plan is a work in progress which means it will be updated periodically.

The county-wide plan also includes information to help you make a plan for you and your family…Your individual preparedness plan!  We encourage you to plan for disasters so that your health and safety are protected.  The importance of an individualized plan is evident with the recent H1N1 (Swine Flu) outbreak.

Upcoming Event

To help you prepare your individual plan, ADMH will also be presenting a 12-week Individual Preparedness activity through advertisement in the local paper.  Completing the 12-week activities can help you prepare for an outbreak.

Questions on How to Prepare

The Pandemic Influenza Plan will also help YOU prepare for a wide variety of disasters that may occur on many levels from individual to state or nationally.  Please contact  the Kingsbury County Emergency Management Office if you have any questions on how you can prepare. You can see a copy of the plan at most businesses, all schools, many daycares, and at your health care location.
