Avera De Smet Memorial Hospital provides patients and their family members with compassionate, quality care. Our goal is to provide health care services that exceed our customers' expectations.

The inpatient care area is staffed with registered nurses (RNs) and nurse aides. All of our nursing staff are educated in trauma and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) on a continuing basis. We pride ourselves with our low staff to patient ratios, and our close working relationship with our four local physicians.

Avera De Smet Memorial Hospital has 17 beds and one hospice acute room, all of which were recently renovated in the fall of 2003.

To provide privacy and safety to our patients,

  • Information regarding your health status will only be released to those you have authorized. (It is a good idea to designate a spokesperson so other family and friends can contact him/her for information.)
  • General visiting hours are from 11:00 a.m to 8:30 p.m.
  • No latex balloons are allowed in any area of the hospital.
  • Avera De Smet Memorial Hospital is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas outside the building.
  • To help ensure medication safety, bring a list (or the actual medications) of all of the prescription and non-prescription drugs you are taking with you to the hospital.
