November 19, 2008 Jennifer Jacks Receives MDCB Certification The Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) is pleased to announce that Jennifer Jacks of the Avera Queen of Peace Cancer Center has earned the prestigious MDCB Certification credential. Jennifer Jacks, MA, RT(T), CMD, graduated from the University of Michigan’s Radiation Therapy program with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2000 and has worked full-time as a Radiation Therapist since that time.

November 11, 2008 Mitchell City Library Receives Low Vision Equipment New equipment recently presented to the Mitchell Public Library is designed to help meet the growing need for low vision services, according to Jackie Hess, director of the Mitchell Public Library.

November 11, 2008 Caregivers Support Group Scheduled A Caregivers Support Group has been established so individuals who provide care for a spouse, family member, or other loved one can meet with other caregivers for fellowship and to share ideas and provide emotional support for one another. Meetings are held once a month at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospitality House at 600 East 6th Avenue in Mitchell.

November 7, 2008 Medical Mini-Series Planned Jonathan C. Olegario, MD, an Internal Medicine Specialist, will be the featured speaker at a Medical Mini-Series on Thursday, November 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Dr. Olegario’s presentation, “Fibromyalgia – Update and Discussion,” will focus on the primary symptoms of fibromyalgia including wide spread musculoskeletal pain, severe fatigue, and disturbed sleep patterns.

November 3, 2008 Bariatric Surgery for Weight Loss Support Group A free support group has been created for individuals who have already had bariatric surgery for weight loss. The Bariatric Surgery for Weight Loss Support Group will meet on Thursday, November 13, at 7:00 p.m. in Conference Room #1 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.

October 22, 2008 Splash of Spirits Geri Beck, Director, Avera Queen of Peace Foundation, announces that the third annual “a Splash of Spirits,” will be held Saturday, November 15, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Highland Mall in Mitchell.

October 20, 2008 Prostate Health Review Offered Dileep S. Bhat, MD, Urologist; Stephen J. Dick, MD, MPH, Radiation Oncologist; and Anwarul Haq, MD, Oncologist/Hematologist, all on staff at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, will present information on all components of prostate health at a Medical Mini Series entitled “Prostate Health Review” on Wednesday, October 29, at 7:00 p.m. in Conference Room #1 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.

October 13, 2008 Avera Queen of Peace Announces New Board Members Thomas P. Rasmusson, President and CEO, Avera Queen of Peace Health Services, is pleased to announce that Charles Bergeleen and Loren Noess have been appointed to the Avera Queen of Peace Board of Directors.

October 7, 2008 Rasmusson Recognized by ACHE Thomas P. Rasmusson, President and CEO, Avera Queen of Peace Health Services, received the American College of Healthcare Executives Service Award at the annual ACHE meeting which was held in conjunction with the annual South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations annual meeting in Rapid City, September 24-26.
