Avera Brady History

Avera Brady Health and Rehab, formerly known as Brady Memorial Home, was built in 1961 by the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls, SD, and was managed by the Presentation Sisters. It was originally named Brady Memorial Home in honor of Arch Bishop William O. Brady, Arch Bishop of St. Paul; and Monsignor John M. Brady, former pastor of Holy Family Parish, Mitchell. In 1987, the Presentation Sisters assumed ownership from the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls.
A number of expansion projects have been completed over the years, including the following:

  • A duplex to accommodate independent living, 1979
  • Bishop Hoch Villa to provide apartments, a greenhouse, a large multi-use area; it is attached to Avera Brady at the shared Chapel area; 1982
  • Administrative wing, including a business office, a conference room, storage areas, two administrative offices, an activity room and office, and a new entrance to connect this wing to the original building, 1985
  • Twenty-three bed wing, including dining, restorative therapy, grooming, and plant maintenance areas, 1990
  • Addition of a four-season room and remodeling of B-Wing dining/lounge areas, 1999
  • Construction of Avera Brady Assisted Living, 2000

Avera Brady is integrated with Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, a member of Avera Health. The facility operates as a department of the hospital and is governed by the Avera Queen of Peace Board of Directors.
