Wellness Center

A host of programs, classes and services, designed to assist individuals in becoming and remaining fit are available at the Wellness Center, located at 5th & Kittridge, Mitchell, on the southwest corner of the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital campus. Memberships and day passes are available. Trained exercise professionals offer instruction and guidance to help you select the appropriate work-out to maximize your wellness program and prevent injury. A variety of exercise programs and classes are offered to enhance your experience.

CYBEX
The Wellness Center features CYBEX VR2 equipment, designed to increase muscular strength and endurance while improving range of motion. Staff will provide proper instruction on using this equipment to maximize benefits and prevent injury. Several pieces of the CYBEX equipment include range of motion limiting devices that enable the Avera Queen of Peace Rehabilitation Services Department to provide injury rehabilitation programs.

Olympic Free-Weights
The Olympic free-weight gym is equipped with free-weight dumb-bells; incline, decline, and flat bench presses; squat rack; hip sled; vertical knee raise; lat pull down; seated calf raise; Smith machine; cable cross-over; preacher curl; a universal machine and more. Use of the free-weight gym can help you increase muscle strength, muscle tone and muscle balance. The use of free-weights in sport specific training can help improve athletic performance. Staff will provide proper instruction on using this equipment to maximize benefits and prevent injury.

Cardiovascular Equipment
The following equipment helps increase the efficiency of the heart and lungs and lower the risk of heart disease adn appeals to all types of users, from the athlete to the general fitness enthusiast, as well as the rehabilitation client:

  • Programmable treadmills
  • Stair steppers
  • Exercise bikes
  • Recumbent bikes
  • Nu-steps
  • Elliptical fitness cross-trainers

Showers and Locker Rooms
Showers and lockers are available for use while you are at the Wellness Center. Soap and towels are provided free of charge. Members are asked to take possessions with them at the end of each work-out. A limited number of lockers are available to rent. Please check with the staff.
